ANNA KENDRICK'S 'PITCH PERFECT' PREMIERE LOOK WAS JUST THAT

It's rare that funny girl Anna Kendrick doesn't look cute on a red carpet, but every so often she'll wow us by wearing a sophisticated, sleek ensemble that just screams "big screen siren." For instance, that time when she wore a black Band of Outsiders tuxedo (without a shirt underneath) to the 2015 Grammy Awards, or the elegant black and white Narciso Rodriguez gown she donned for the world premiere of "Into the Woods." The actress — and current face of Kate Spade — got all glamorous on us once again on Friday for the world premiere of "Pitch Perfect 2" in Los Angeles, wearing a deep purple and royal blue cut-out gown by Stella McCartney. Considering how the film is both a musical and a comedy, we're glad to see Kendrick didn't opt for a dress that fits in with either of those themes. Instead, she looked every bit the leading lady, completing her look with a silver box clutch, a statement earring and side-swept waves. Aca-mazing, don't you think?

HOW TO GIVE YOURSELF A PROFESSIONAL AT-HOME MANICURE

Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for “makeup tutorial” and “hair tutorial” yields more than 5 million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what’s best.

A recent multi-part investigative report by the New York Times has brought to light the ugly underbelly of New York's nail salons, finding that workers receive little to no pay and face hazardous health conditions to provide customers with a dirt-cheap nail job.

I already do my own nails, more out of budgetary concerns than anything — nail polish inevitably peels from my nails after just a few days, so any time I've had a manicure I feel like I've wasted money. But after reading the Times report, even my occasional indulgence feels exploitative.

So, for me personally, the solution is to double-down on my at-home technique. I've gotten halfway decent at doing my own nails — they don't look like I've let a toddler at my hands with a bottle of nail polish — but it could use some finessing. I've trusted YouTube vlogger Tiffany D for years; something about her faint Southern accent makes me feel like she's one of my cooler older cousins. Her video about doing at-home manicures goes beyond a step-by-step tutorial, which you can find anywhere, and instead goes over her preferred products and her personal technique tricks.

So whether you're just looking to improve your mani-pedi technique or giving up a weekly salon habit, this is the perfect video to get started.

Get your mom to look fashionable

With mummies becoming oh-so-stylish by the day, we tell you why maternal bliss is no longer about bidding farewell to fashion...

Gone are the days when moms tried to squeeze into their teenage daughter's tees to look chic. From smartly dropping kids to school, flooring everyone with their sartorial acumen at work and being hot head turners at night clubs, mothers today can beat their hip kids to fashion trends.

And with such a strong style sense, undoubtedly, mothers just don't dress in salwar-kameez but are fast emerging as new fashionable icons. Here's how...

Maternal Instinct
Women love to shop and it shouldn't be any different for mothers. Designer Payal Jain feels that by the time a woman becomes a mother she would have experimented with a lot of looks and understood her body type. "For any woman, her early 30s and 40s is 'the' perfect time to zero in on what looks good on them," suggests Jain. She feels women who keep their body type in mind while shopping can be termed divas.

"If you're heavy at the hips and thighs, always opt for lowers in dark shades. Pair them with tees or tops that are below the hip. But if your shoulder and arms are slimmer, then pick up sleeveless flowy dresses to accentuate them. Women heavy at the bust or waist should avoid too many prints or detailing around that area; pear-shaped ladies should always sport vertical stripes," are Jain's trendy tips for moms.

Graceful Mom
For mothers who are on the wrong side of forty, designer Joy Mitra suggests that they should "look graceful and elegant." He wants moms to be fashionable and with the times. "Motherhood doesn't mean compromising on colours, embellishments, accessories and style. They just need to make sure they aren't over the top. Sharmila Tagore and Hema Malini have grown up daughters yet the two ladies manage to look so beautiful with their brilliant dressing sense. They wear the brightest and boldest of shades, yet look so pretty all the time," says Mitra.

Moms, hope you are listening?

Chic Mom
Riddhima Kapoor Sahni shows how young mothers carry LBDs, hot metallic bags and watches with elan.

Power Packed
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a mother of two best exemplifies the term 'power dressing' and manages to turn heads.

Subtle Style
Flowy dresses fitted at the bust and waist isn't just the domain of PYTs. Model Noyonika exemplifies what ageing with grace means.

Hue High
Graceful doesn't just mean greys. Sharmila Tagore looks colourful and charming despite her age.

Sexy Moms
Madhuri Dixit and Malaika Arora Khan are exemplary working moms who have never let motherhood or age affect their flair.

Celebs make a statement in prints

Prints have been around for a while now, and looking at style divas both in India and abroad, one can see that this trend is here to stay.

Summer is a time for light fabrics and comfy outfits that can be made chic with a healthy dose of graphics. Trendy prints look best this time of the year, and as always, celebs show us how to sport them...

Kalki Koechlin
Kalki Koechlin kept it formal and understated during the trailer launch of her upcoming movie. The bright rose prints on a somber grey dress are ideal if you are attending a black-tie event.

Deepika Padukone
Nothing represents summer better than flowers. Despite being completely covered, Deepika Padukone made heads turn in her flowy flower-printed dress at a recent fashion show.

Sonam Kapoor
Even though prints are preferred in summer, don't go overboard with them. Sonam Kapoor donned a classy white gown with a hint of prints that added drama to her look at an awards function.

Meghan Trainor
It was all about the print when Meghan Trainor attended a kid's choice award late last month. The singer looked quite comfy in a simple, light, animal-print dress.

Zendaya

Everything about singer Zendaya's outfit, which she wore to a music award show, screamed summer. The bright top, animal-inspired graphic skirt and neon footwear made her look young and fresh.

Anushka Sharma

Want to look casual chic this season? Take a cue from Anushka Sharma, who pairs comfy graphic pants with a plain T-shirt as she poses for a retail brand.

Sonakshi Sinha
Feeling dressy? You can incorporate prints even if you are going to a formal do, just like Sonakshi Sinha did when she donned a simple white dress during a recently-held fashion week.

Jordana Brewster
Jordana Brewster took the beach along with her when she attended the premier of her latest movie in Hollywood. The star fish prints on a deep-neck sheer dress makes for an ideal summer outfit.

3 steps to rock wine lips like Rihanna

When it comes to deep, dark and intense lip colours, only few can ace the game. However, this doesn't mean you can't do burgundy like a pro! If your lipstick lexicon needs a do-over, who better than Rihanna to help you shake things up a little. The pop icon matched her velvety bordeaux lips with a sharp feline streak—bringing that classic old Hollywood charm to the red carpet.

LancĂ´me India's National Make-up Artist, Stafford Braganza, shows you how to rock wine lips like RiRi, without letting your lips bleed:

Select your wine(stain): While burgundy with its warm undertones is great for Indian skin, Braganza picks just the right spectrum of garnet for you—"deep, warm brick tones for darker skin, cool reds with golden undertones for medium skin, and coral reds for fairer skin."

Define the 'V': "Bordeaux lip colours have a tendency to bleed, so fill in your lips with a lip liner first. Start with the upper lip by defining the V, then follow the natural lip line, and move on to filling them for a more structured freshness," explains Braganza.

#NoFilter: Tap a bit of sheer gloss on the centre of the mouth for a selfie-ready pout.

How to Wear Skinny Jeans For Plus Size Woman

There are different types of plus size apparels, skinny jeans being one of them. Skin tight jeans have been the hottest trend in the fashion world, and it doesn’t seem to fade anytime soon. It has been ubiquitous for a decade, worn by everyone from celebrities to politicians.  There is a wrong notion that pulling off skinny jeans by a plus size woman can be challenging. In reality, plus size women too can look incredible and stylish in skinny jeans. You just need to know few style tips to balance the proportions and create a flattering silhouette and a perfect-fitting pair.

Fortunately, there are some convenient guiding principles and strategies that will ensure you look incredible in those skinny jeans. Check out some rational tips for wearing skinny jeans for curvy women.

TIPS FOR WEARING SKINNY JEANS FOR PLUS SIZE WOMEN

Fitting Matters – If you’re plus size, you have to pay special attention to get the right fit in skinny jeans. Be prepared to give yourself enough time while shopping. Don’t hesitate to try on several pairs . Pay special attention to the hips and thighs. Remember, you should be able to walk and sit in your skinny jeans. Look for stretchable skinnies to give you some flexibility.

Choose your top, wisely – To look fab in skinny jeans, you have to do justice to it. Choose its counterpart wisely to balance out your body’s proportion. Wearing a kimono-style top, a pretty billowy blouse or a long, loose tunic that hits just above the widest part of your hips, is a great idea to pair up with skinny jeans. If you are more towards a pear-shaped figure, wearing a top with volume draws attention to your upper half, making your lower half appear slimmer. To flaunt your curves, you can add a thin, colourful belt or sash over a long tunic top, to cinch in your waist. You can choose a hi-low shirt with long backside to cover your hips, it will give you more confidence. Look for a top with v-neck or soft cowl neck or with wide sleeves or ruffles, it will help to balance your body proportion. The length of your top or blouse will really affect how thin or bigger your thighs will look. A few inches below the medium-waist works best for most.

Flatter your curves – Curves are hot, but you need to make sure you look good with them. If you’re an hourglass shape, curvy on top and bottom, look for tops that flatter your curves. A v-neck tunic or sweater with a wide belt turns your skinny jeans into sexy jeans. As already mentioned, you can add a thin belt or sash over a long tunic top, to cinch in your waist.

Illusion with Dark colour – You already know the fact that wearing dark coloured outfits minimize body areas, while lighter colours can make things look bigger. A dark wash or a black skinny jeans is a no brainer option for plus size women. Skip acid wash, thigh fading, white skinny jeans or sand wash type of jeans and go for classic solid wash. Skinny jeans in a dark indigo wash are the most versatile, as they can be worn with any outfit

High rise or Mid-rise skinny jeans- A nice fitting pair of high-rise skinny jeans can really accentuate your curves. These are best jeans for curvy women. But, choose it warily as it should not visually amplify your hip area. Low-rise skinny jeans give the illusion of short and thick legs, while, high-waist dark jeans with heels frame and hide curvy thighs. But if you have a belly, than opt for a mid-rise – one that hits just below your belly button. It helps to conceal and hold your middle. Avoid too-low jeans that don’t contain your tummy. Also try on different styles until you discover your favourite skinny jeans.

Make shrugs and jackets your best friend – Pair your dark wash skinny jeans with a classic jean jacket or choose a jacket in a lighter or bluish wash than your dark wash jeans, it draws interest upward toward your face, and away from the lower half. But no restrictions, you can also opt for other colours as well. A jacket, cape or shrug which falls just over your hips is a fine way for balancing out larger hips. Team with a long, statement necklace to draw the attention to your waist and curves. This is an incredible, go-to look for curvy women wanting to try skinny jeans, as it adds volume and interest up top, while making you look elegant and chic.

Ending with right footwear – Skinny jeans are great for elongating your legs. You will look best in high heels with skinny jeans, but you can also wear flats if that’s more your style. For colder weather, you can finish the look by tucking your jeans into a pair of ankle boots – read here. For summers, espadrilles are perfect or pair long skinny jeans with ballet flats, or a kitten heel. If you’re opting for flats rather than boots, a slightly longer inseam will make your legs look longer and slimmer. You can also opt for wedges or platform-style heels, to create balance in the line of your leg.

Here’s the easiest styling tip for plus size women, whenever you feel uncomfortable wearing skinny bottom, simply tie a shirt or cardigan just above your hips and head towards the door.
